The Department of Social Sciences began its activity in 1983 with the admission of its first round students in the field of Social Sciences at BA level. Afterwards, the department initiated it's program in MA for Social Science Research in 1996. Since 2000, MA program in Sociology added to the existing fields of the department. Taking society's economic, social, and academic needs, the department initiated the Field of Corporation and Social Welfare in 2001 at the BA level. Since 2009, the department started offering a PhD program in Developmental and Economic Sociology. At the present, the department consists of two BA, two MA, and one PhD programs in Social Sciences and related fields.
In 2018, the department has 9 fulltime faculty members. The department has 372 students in various levels and fields in 2017-8, which are presented by the following table:

Faculty members of the department, in addition to their routine teaching and research activities, provide professional consultantcy to other institutes. The Department of Social Sciences has got its own special library, which provides services for the students.
